Dietetics Service

We are a team of experts in the field of nutrition and dietetics
working to promote nutritional health and wellbeing. We translate
scientific knowledge into practical advice and information to
support the diverse population of City and Hackney. The aim of our
service is to promote a good nutrition to help prevent disease,
improve quality of life and aid recovery.
Dietitians are the only qualified professionals to assess,
diagnose and treat diet and nutrition problems. You can be
reassured that your dietitian is an appropriately trained
professional, registered and fit to practice as a dietitian by
checking the Health Professional Council
website.
Our services
We work in many locations, in a variety of manners, across the
boroughs of the City and Hackney to provide nutrition knowledge and
empower you with the skills you will need to make your lifestyle
and diet choices. We use up-to-date evidence-based information to
provide you with the best nutrition advice and support. We work
with all age groups both on a public health community level as well
as on a one-to-one individual basis.
Dietitians advise on special diets that may be required as a
part of your medical treatment. Services include:
- Outpatient clinics for individual nutritional assessment,
development of nutrition care plans and dietary counselling
- Home visits for referred patients who are housebound and thus
unable to make an outpatient appointment
- Advise local nursing homes and other care agencies about
clients with nutritional concerns
- Monitor and support clients on home enteral feeding
- Run regular outpatient clinics at various locations across
Hackney, including at various children's centres and health
centres.
We support and train members of the primary healthcare team to
provide accurate and consistent nutritional information. We also
work to raise the awareness of nutrition and ensure nutritional
information is accurate and appropriate in a number of ways:
- Support the production or purchase of culturally appropriate
nutrition education resources
- Provide formal or informal education sessions for patients or
other user groups on request
- Support national and local nutrition-related health
campaigns
- Participate in local health fairs and other educational
events
- Support the Hackney Healthy Schools Programme
- Consultancy work to both statutory and voluntary organisations,
upon request
- Advise on nutritional components of national policy
- Develop and assist implementation of local nutrition-related
policies, such as infant feeding policy and breastfeeding
policy
- Run Cook and Eat sessions for children, young people and their
families in children's centres and early years settings; these
sessions are a fun way to learn about ways to make healthier food
choices.
