Looked After Children

The LAC health team service works to ensure that children and young people looked after by the London Borough of Hackney and the Corporation of London are able to access and receive good health care. The service works in partnership with LAC designated and named doctors/paediatricians.

 

Services

  • Ensure looked after children receive statutory LAC health assessments or reviews; these should be 6 monthly for children aged 0-4 and yearly for children aged 5-18 years
  • Ensure looked after children aged 0-5 years receive routine developmental health assessments from the health visiting service and/or GP
  • Ensure looked after children including unaccompanied asylum-seeking minors are fully immunised according to the UK schedule
  • Support and advise social workers, foster carers and other professionals on meeting the health needs of looked after children
  • Provide training and induction programmes for looked after children to social workers, foster carers, designated teachers for looked after children, health professionals and others

 

Referrals

Referrals may be made by social services care professionals, foster carers and looked after young people.
