School Nursing

The London Borough of Hackney covers three nursery schools, 53 primary schools, 12 secondary schools and seven special schools (two of which are pupil referral units). The Hackney school nursing service provides a core and enhanced nursing service across Hackney’s schools.

 

Services

  • Complete health profiling for each school and school population
  • Health surveillance and screening of children at school entry
  • Monitor children on the child protection register and those deemed vulnerable
  • Provide an advisory and educational role, including staff training
  • Co-ordinate and deliver the school immunisation programme
  • Take an active role in PSHEC (Personal Social Health Education and Citizenship) in class and drop in clinics

 

Referrals

Referrals may be made through self-referral, from families, from schools, voluntary and statutory organisations.

 

Opening hours

Monday to Friday from 9.00am - 5.00pm. These hours can be adjusted to suit the needs of the service. Working hours can be negotiated with the school nurse and team leader.
