Wheelchair Services

The wheelchair service provides a comprehensive service including assessment, supply and maintenance of wheelchairs and seating equipment to children and adults with substantial and long-term mobility impairment. The service aims to enable our clients to gain maximum possible mobility and to promote greater independence.

Regular clinics for assessment and trial of equipment are held by therapists, technicans and rehabilitation engineers. Follow-up visits in the community are arranged as appropriate.

Examples of the service

  • Postural seating and pressure needs assessment
  • Specialist buggies and wheelchairs for children
  • Customised seating for people with complex seating needs
  • Powered wheelchairs for indoor and outdoor use for people with severly impaired mobility
  • Attendant and self-propelling wheelchairs
  • Provision of the NHS Voucher Scheme
  • Repair and maintenance service for equipment provided

Referrals

Referrals must be from a GP, qualified nurse, occupational therapist, physiotherapist or therapy/rehabilitation assistant.
